Recently a website was launched called Cupidtino, a play on the words Coopertino, and Cupid, a dating website for Apple fanboys, and fangirls. That’s right, a dating site specifically for finding that one special Apple product lover that will only love you because you own a Mac. By no means am I bashing Apple’s products, I think they’re nice, but one thing that I can’t stand is a fanboy/girl, and knowing that there’s a dating website out there that allows them to meet, and breed to make little Apple n00blets sounds really wrong.
To start, let me explain what a “fanboy” is as opposed to a “fan”.
Fanboy, n:
An overactive fan of one particular product, item, or brand who believes that their interest is far superior to an opposing product, item, or brand.
Fan, n:
Someone who likes something.
See the difference? We all probably know at least one fanboy. Possibly a Marvel, DC, Star Trek, Star Wars, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Linux, or Apple fanboy. These are the kind of people who get into angry nerd fights over why OS y is better than OS x, or if DC hero x could kill Marvel hero y. I’ll debate some things like this, but I’m not going to get into a fight over it.
There’s nothing quite as annoying as a fanboy, and especially an Apple fanboy. They very mention of a computer that isn’t a Mac would make them flip out in sure anger. They constantly brag about how they think their computers are immune to viruses (they really aren’t), how little maintenance they are, and brag about how much they spent on an overprice Mac Pro. Ok, maybe not all of that was true, but still, they’re pretty annoying.
And now we have Cupidtino. A dating website that aims to bring all Apple fandom together and have them make babies. Not only is this site annoying, but it’s promoting a kind of love that isn’t even real. Hell, you can’t even log into the site on anything other than an Apple product. If you try then you’ll get an error with a picture of the guys from the “I’m a Mac” commercials. Kind of elitist, and snobby if you ask me.
You can’t fall in love with someone just because they own a Mac, and that shouldn’t even be a deciding factor in whether or not to date someone. Honestly, your partner should love you for your heart’s operating system, and not your computer’s*.
*That may be the corniest thing I’ve ever said.
