Locke appears to be the chosen one…
Lost, probably one of the greatest television shows of all time, is coming to an end this Sunday. The show has left us asking more questions, taking notes while watching, and even making up theories to speculate what will happen next. Now is our last chance to do just that.
SPOILER ALERT!
proceed to read at your own risk. I suggest you watch the entire series if you haven’t already.
I am going to attempt to solve the final mystery of Lost. The end is close, and I have two theories. The first Theory is based around Desmond in the sideways reality gathering the candidates to get them to remember the island so that they may return to it, and combine the timelines. We’ll call this the Island Theory. The second theory is based on the Man in Black successfully destroying the island so that he may enter the sideways timeline. We’ll call this the Sideways Theory.
As it seems, Locke knows about the alternate timeline, and that is why he is keeping Desmond around. Desmond is flashing between timelines and Locke is well aware of this. Desmond was chosen to keep the timer going in the hatch because of his ability to withstand the electro-magnetism that the center of the island generates. Locke needs Desmond to go into the center for him to do something that would destroy the island.
Island Theory
In this theory Locke does not succeed in destroying the island but instead Desmond was able to bring everyone back to the island. Desmond told them that they had to “let go”. This tells me that the flash sideways is merely an unstable reality where the island had to escape to in order to create the paradox world that is what we know as the main timeline. The island resides in the memories of the chosen ones, and once Desmond succeeds in having everyone let go then the sideways and the main timeline will merge bringing back the ones who have died in the past.
Sideways Theory
In this theory, Locke knows that Desmond is attempting to merge the timelines, and effectively destroy the island in the process if everything goes his way. Locks must have Desmond go into the center of the island and do something there that would destroy the island. If the island were to be destroyed then the memories from the island would have to be transferred to the sideways timeline. Once the island is gone then the Man In Black would end up in the sideways timeline where the memory of the island still exists and they would have to find some way to bring it back.
This seems less logical as I don’t know where to take it from here, and I still am not sure if Desmond was being manipulated by Jacob, or the Man in Black.
Either Way
The true Locke will assume his body once more and take his place as the true protector of the island in Jack’s place. This is why Locke’s appearance is being used by the smoke monster.
Once the real Locke returns the smoke monster either won’t be able to sustain his image and need a new form, or he may simply die because he would have no one to take the image of as everyone else from the island would be alive again.
I’m actually hoping for some kind of show down between the two Lockes, but we’ll find out Sunday.
What do you think of these theories? Am I right, or wrong. Maybe we can get a discussion going in the comments.
Have a good weekend everyone.
