We see it every day. A sequel to a movie is made that probably shouldn’t have been, and then even worse, a sequel to that movie comes out. The movie currently in review is not one of those cases. Yes, Pixar has done it again, they have created another masterpiece, and this year the movie is the final part of a series that I don’t think anyone expected a third movie out of — Toy Story. I’m sure a lot of people were skeptical about this one as Hollywood has been throwing nothing but sequels and crappy re-makes, especially since this came out of nowhere, but I think we can all agree, this was a great movie.
I had almost an entire summery of this movie typed up, but unfortunately my computer decided to restart without warning because of an update, and apparently the auto-save didn’t kick in. Because of this, we’ll look past how angry I was and call this a spoiler free review.
As anyone wold expect from a movie made by Pixar, Toy Story 3 definitely did not disappoint. It is everything you would want from a family movie, or any movie really. The plot was very well constructed, the character development was phenomenal, and CGI, and animation was exactly what you would expect from a Pixar film, awesome, except in 3D.
Toy Story 3 shows us the same characters that we have known for years, a few are missing, but have fairly suitable replacements. As Toy Story 1 and 2 both put us in a fantasy world where we could see life through the eyes of a toy, this move shows us just that, but years later after they have been grown out of. Andy is now 17 years old, and wouldn’t have much of an interest in playing with his plastic childhood friends, but you can see that he still clings to the memories of his childhood.
That said, the character development in this movie was very well done. We’ve seen these characters grow through the first movie on, but not nearly as much as they have in this one. I’d even go as far as to say that they have way more in this film than the first two combined.
As for the CGI animation, and 3D visuals, they were absolutely astounding as any other Pixar film (I didn’t see UP in 3D, but I’m sure this tops it as the technology has grown). I don’t think that that is even necessary for me to state, of course it’s good!
If you saw the first two Toy Story movies then you really do need to see this movie. There’s not many cases where a movie’s sequel is better than the original, or even when the sequel’s sequel is even greater (unless the movies kinda sucked anyway, and there would be nowhere to go but up), but this one really did put the icing on the cake
To sum it all up, this movie was one of the best (if not THE best) family movies I’ve ever seen. I highly suggest you go see it ASAP. It’s well worth the over-priced cost for a movie ticket these days. If you see any other movie this weekend, and you haven’t seen this, you’re an idiot.
I’m happy to see that this movie did so well, as Toy Story was one of the bigger movies of my childhood. My final verdict is…
10/10, a must see.
